Pop False Ceiling

Pop or Plaster of Paris is the most commonly used material for false ceiling. Plaster of Paris is essentially composed of gypsum a naturally occurring mineral contains hydrated calcium sulphate. Plaster of Paris is manufactured. Pop is made up of gypsum. Pop is formed when gypsum crystal including certain additives are heated up 175°C degree Celsius and then powdered. Pop comes in powder form and it has to be mixed with water at side during application. 

Advantages of Pop False Ceiling

1. Pop is more durable than gypsum board since the same material is used for filling joints it does not show cracks easily. It can sustain for many years without any wear and tear.
2. Pop is in powder form so it can be used as a joint filing, making moulding and corners to decorate modern design.
3. The Pop powder is applied on chicken-net that provides mechanical strength to false ceiling.
4. Plaster of parish offers greater flexibility in design and can be moulded into a different curved shape. Also, Pop is ideal for designing cornices. 
5. It is easy to repair pop false ceiling if any section gets damaged by leakage of water.
6. Pop has low thermal conductivity.
7. Pop is a very good fire-resistant hence it provides better heat-insulating.
8. Pop has good adhesion property on fibrous material.
9. Pop can be mixed with water and it is easy to spread and level.
10. Pop is a lightweight material. 
11. Pop false ceiling with wire chicken mesh has low possibilities of cracking excluding wall and false ceiling joints.

Disadvantages of Pop False Ceiling

1. The process of mixing the contents of a pop false ceiling on-site is a messy and lengthy process that requires a lot of cleaning afterwards.
2. In the case of the POP false ceiling, a lot of POP mixture is wasted in the application process and it requires adequate drying time.
3. Pop false ceiling is a time-consuming, messy, dusty process and gives unpolished feel. It could take a month time to complete.  
4. POP cannot be used in a moist situation. Pop will fall down immediately if there is any leakage in the roof. 
5. Pop false ceiling required skilled labour.
6. Pop false Ceiling requires further finishing like a painting.
7. In case of POP unless the mixture is prepared correctly in the right proportions of POP and water it will be of inferior quality and might shrink or crack for long-term durability make sure that only skilled workers mix and prepare the mixture at the site.

Pop false ceiling rate depends upon the quality of material (metal frame, pop, chicken mesh), design, location and contractors. Generally, pop false ceiling rat stats from 60/- per square feet and may go up to 120/- per square feet (Material + Labour). The cove is measured extra which cost starts from 45/- running feet and may go up to 80/- running feet.
